Clubs vs Teams

For a Team to be able to play in the Herts Basketball League (HBL) it needs to exist in the appropriate Competition, Season and Grade/Division. A Team can either be created by a Club or by the HBL Administrators.

A Club has to be created in PlayHQ by Basketball England (BE). The best contact to ask is clubs@basketballengland.co.uk who can set this up for you. Crucially a Club in PlayHQ doesn't have to be affiliated to BE. Affiliation does have its benefits, and costs, and maybe required for junior and National League teams, but it's not prerequisite to be added as a Club in PlayHQ.

If you are constituted as a Club in PlayHQ, Club Administrators should get an invite from HBL to join the upcoming season when it is being planned. When you accept this invitation you can create Teams within your Club and attach them to a Division in the season. With this in place, Players can then register directly with their Club for the Team they want to join via the Club page on PlayHQ. A link to the PlayHQ Club Player Registration page will be displayed on the appropriate HBL Team page. Club Administrators may find being able to manage the registrations for several Teams via PlayHQ useful.

If Clubs want to manage their player registrations in this they must create their Teams in PlayHQ as soon as they get the season invitation from the HBL Administrators. If not, then Teams will be created for them by the HBL Administrators.

If your Team isn't associated with a Club it will be created in the Division for the Season by the HBL Administrators. The PlayHQ Player Registration link will then be displayed on the appropriate HBL Team page.

IMPORTANT: Choosing to register a Club owned Team must be done before the fixtures are generated, as changing fixtures for a Team created by the HBL Administrators to one owned by a Club is very time consuming.

Player Registration

Players register through their HBL Team page. If this is their first time using PlayHQ they will need to provide all the information requested. Some may find it intrusive and excessive but this is what has been requested by BE. Under 18s will need parental consent. If you already have a PlayHQ account from previous seasons you can login to your profile.

  1. Choose the Competition from those listed
  2. Choose the Participant - this is likely to be you in most situations
  3. Choose the Role your role - this is most likely to be Player or it could be Coach or Team Manager
  4. Ensure your details are correct and answer the additional questions
  5. Confirm or update your photo
  6. Review the fees, make your marketing choice and agree to the terms
  7. Review and pay the fees

Adding Roles to a Profile

You maybe more that a Player for your Team or Club. You maybe a Coach or Team Manager. You don’t add a role to your profile from your profile page. This is done by repeating the Player Registration process and add the role, at step 3, to your profile. Please be aware that some roles have to go through a vetting to your status maybe pending for a period.

Referee, Table Official or Statistician Registration

Follow the process in Player Registration but use the Register with Basketball England - East Region registration link.
